The story, neutrally told

Mixed · 2Warriors center Kristaps Porzingis remains sidelined indefinitely with an undisclosed health matter, the team announced on Wednesday 14 October, and it gave no timetable for a return. Centre · 1Porzingis had missed training camp and Golden State's first five preseason games. General manager Mike Dunleavy first said on 28 September that Porzingis would be out indefinitely. Centre · 1Before the return, Newsweek cited a San Francisco Standard report (by Danny Emerman) that the Warriors were unsure of Porzingis's location, the nature of the health issue and the return date. Newsweek also reported that coach Steve Kerr had exchanged messages with Porzingis and that team medical staff stayed in contact.

Centre · 1Kerr said on Monday 12 October that Porzingis, 31, was expected at the facility on Tuesday. According to the Warriors, Porzingis returned on Tuesday 13 October and met with Dunleavy and Dr. Rick Celebrini, who works in the team's player health and performance department. Centre · 1The Warriors said "The specific contents of that meeting will remain private," that Porzingis will stay around the team while addressing his health, and that more information on his practice and game availability will come when appropriate. Right · 1Porzingis posted on X that he is working with doctors and experts, writing: "Honestly, I'm getting better and better. I just have to stay patient, and I believe I'll be feeling great again soon." He called the situation frustrating, citing "some health stuff that you can't exactly pinpoint" on top of injuries throughout his career.

Right · 1He also thanked "all the internet doctors trying to diagnose and help," said he is "in the best hands," and wrote "I don't have HIV or AIDS," responding to social media speculation, according to Fox News. Mixed · 2Newsweek noted that Porzingis has previously discussed a diagnosis of postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS), but the Warriors have not said whether this absence is related. Fox News said Porzingis has alluded to lingering effects of an upper respiratory virus from his time with the Boston Celtics two seasons ago. Mixed · 2Golden State acquired the 7-foot-2 Porzingis from the Atlanta Hawks at the February trade deadline and gave him a two-year, $40 million deal. Fox News reported that only $3 million of the $20 million he is owed this season is guaranteed.

Centre · 1The Warriors open the 2026-27 regular season against the Los Angeles Lakers on 21 October. Newsweek, citing the San Francisco Chronicle, reported that Kerr is leaning toward a smaller starting group of Stephen Curry, Brandin Podziemski, Gui Santos, rookie Yaxel Lendeborg and Draymond Green. Newsweek also noted that injuries to Jimmy Butler and Moses Moody have complicated preparations. Mixed · 2The outlets give different totals for Porzingis's 2025-26 games. Newsweek reported 32 games in one article and 15 games with the Warriors in another, while Fox News reported 34 games with the Hawks and Warriors combined.
