The story, neutrally told

Mixed · 2Kumar Sangakkara, the former Sri Lanka cricket captain, accused Ryanair gate personnel at Dublin Airport of discriminatory and threatening behaviour towards his family, in a post on X on Wednesday 28 October 2026. Mixed · 2He wrote: "Has anyone experienced discriminatory gate personnel @Ryanair in Dublin? I with my family just did and it was shocking. The tone of address and the mishandling of procedure and threatening behavior. Unacceptable for any passenger. First bad experience in Dublin." Mixed · 2Sri Lankan businessman Sanjiva Weerawarana replied that he had experienced discrimination "in every part of the west", having lived there for 16 years and travelled back and forth for another 25. Sangakkara answered: "It is quite jarring when you experience it." Left · 1TV presenter Piers Morgan backed Sangakkara, saying "Rarely met a more decent, dignified man than Kumar" and that he hoped Ryanair would "deal with this urgently & properly". Left · 1In a statement quoted by the Daily Mirror, Ryanair said the passenger "refused to provide the required visa documentation when requested by a gate agent carrying out mandatory immigration checks". It said that after the checks were completed and eligibility to travel verified, the passenger took the scheduled Dublin to Bristol flight on 28 October.
