The story, neutrally told

Charlie Lawson, 67, who played Jim McDonald in Coronation Street, replied 'They are distinctly average' to an X post asking whether Oasis were overhyped. Liam Gallagher answered: 'Like your f***ing acting skills.' Asked by another user about Lawson's work, Gallagher wrote 'Actor in his f***ing dreams'.

GB News also quotes Gallagher saying Lawson had 'had it coming for a long time'; the Daily Mail and Digital Spy do not carry that remark. The Daily Mail and Digital Spy report Lawson replying 'Hello darling!? You still taking a line in town?'. All three say Lawson also shared a clip of Talking Heads, calling them a 'favourite band in the 80s and 90s'.

Lawson's character was killed off screen in 2026; GB News says Lawson has not acted since a minor stroke in 2018. The Daily Mail and GB News place the row alongside Gallagher's other online spats over Oasis Live '27 ticket prices and, in GB News, with Terry Christian over Manchester City. The outlets differ on the day of the exchange (Monday in the Daily Mail, Tuesday in GB News) and on ticket prices (from £170.50 per the Daily Mail; £71.50 to £266.60 per GB News).
