The story, neutrally told

Louis Walsh, 74, said on The 2 Johnnies podcast that his doctor suspects he suffered a minor heart attack during his time on Celebrity Big Brother in 2024. He said he had anxiety problems in the house and needed medics, and described taking part as a "big mistake". Walsh said he couldn't sleep, that the house was dark and locked, and that he was let out a few times "to have a cup of tea".

He said ITV medics looked after him "very well", and that he took part for the money but should not have. He also ruled out a return to Simon Cowell's rumoured X Factor reboot, saying he is "probably too old" and doubts he would be asked. The Independent said it had contacted ITV for comment; no ITV response is reported.

The Independent adds background: Walsh revealed on the show a blood cancer diagnosis during lockdown, and presenter Rylan Clark said in 2024 that Walsh was "a shell of a man" afterwards. In the same interview he criticised The Voice for dropping Sir Tom Jones and said he once made up a Boyzone plane-crash story for publicity.
