The story, neutrally told

Centre · 2Former Coronation Street actor Ryan Thomas and his fiancée Lucy Mecklenburgh have put their Edwardian home in Bramhall, Cheshire, on the market for £1.25 million. Centre · 2They bought the property for £675,000 in 2021, so the asking price is £575,000 higher, a rise of about 85 per cent, before renovation costs are counted. Centre · 2The 3,100 sq ft house was renovated into a four-storey family home with a gym, sound studio, open-plan kitchen and a new second floor; the couple did not move in until 2023 after the building work.

Centre · 1Estate agent Mosley Jarman describes it as having been "lovingly and extensively developed and extended to the highest of standards". Centre · 2Both outlets cite the Daily Mail as saying the property is registered only in Thomas's name, so he could receive the proceeds of a sale. Centre · 2Thomas was declared bankrupt in 2013 over an unpaid £40,000 tax bill, according to the Times of India; in 2024 he said he did not regret what happened and called it a "real blessing".

Centre · 1The Times of India, citing company filings in the Daily Mail report, says Thomas's media company R James Thomas Ltd had £1 in its bank account, against £41,361 in 2024, with more than £30,000 outstanding on a Covid Bounce Back loan. Centre · 1The same report puts Mecklenburgh's worth at around £3 million, from fitness, fashion and beauty work, and says she is understood to own a separate investment property worth about £360,000. Centre · 2The couple met on The Island with Bear Grylls in 2017 and have two children, Roman, five, and Lilah, three. Digital Spy adds that Thomas played Jason Grimshaw for 16 years and spoke earlier this year about an ADHD diagnosis.

Every sentence links to the reporting it rests on. The pill in front of each says where its sources sit: Left, Centre or Right when one side supplies at least half of them, Mixed when they are evenly split. The number is how many outlets it cites.

Framing
Both outlets rework the Daily Mail's story as celebrity property and finance gossip. The Times of India leads on the potential £575,000 windfall; Digital Spy leads on Thomas as a former soap actor selling.
Emphasis
The Times of India stresses profit, renovation, company accounts and Mecklenburgh's wealth. Digital Spy stresses the near-doubling in price, Thomas's bankruptcy and his past comments.
Leaves out or plays down
Digital Spy leaves out the company filings, Mecklenburgh's wealth and the agent's description. The Times of India leaves out Thomas's soap salary and ADHD diagnosis. Neither reports a comment from the couple on the sale.
Charged language
“lavish”“windfall”“huge seven-figure sum”
For example
“could be in line for a £575,000 property windfall” — The Times of India
“the sale of the property would be a big financial boon for the actor, who was declared bankrupt in 2013” — Digital Spy
