The story, neutrally told

Left · 1Luke Grimes, who stars in and executive produces the CBS spinoff Marshals, told The Hollywood Reporter that they had reservations about continuing Kayce Dutton's story from Yellowstone in a different format. Left · 1The Hollywood Reporter says Marshals launched in March, is run by Spencer Hudnut with Taylor Sheridan as an executive producer, and that its premiere drew more than 20 million viewers in its first week. Left · 1Grimes said they expected only one season and are now preparing for a longer run: "it looks like we'll be doing it for a while," and "This has been the greatest character of my life."

Mixed · 2Season two, a 20-episode run, premiered on Sunday with the episode "All Hat No Cattle", in which Dolly Weaver (Ellyn Jameson), a possible love interest for Kayce, dies; the outlets describe her death differently. Mixed · 2The Hollywood Reporter says Dolly was killed in a standoff between Kayce and her father, Tom Weaver (Chris Mulkey), while Screen Rant says she died in a car accident as Weaver tried to escape after a botched kidnapping of Kayce's son, Tate. Mixed · 2Asked about Kelsey Asbille returning as Monica in flashbacks or cameos, Grimes said: "I would love it, personally. Her and I haven’t really spoken about it," adding that Asbille "feels sort of done with that chapter in her life" and that they did not know whether it is in the plan.

Left · 1Grimes said they missed working with Asbille, and that her absence was part of their hesitation about a romantic interest for Kayce in season one; they said enough time has passed that the audience and they are now more ready for one. Left · 1Grimes described the show as a hybrid with a procedural element and season-long through lines, said Kayce still wears his wedding ring, and said the return of Jimmy (Jefferson White) makes it feel "like we’re shooting Yellowstone again." They also still hope for a Beth and Kayce Dutton Ranch crossover, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Centre · 1Screen Rant adds that it has been reported that Monica's death was at least partly motivated by legal reasons to differentiate Marshals from a direct Yellowstone continuation, and says Kayce may have to accept someone new as Tate, who mentions turning 18 soon, seeks independence.

Every sentence links to the reporting it rests on. The pill in front of each says where its sources sit: Left, Centre or Right when one side supplies at least half of them, Mixed when they are evenly split. The number is how many outlets it cites.
