The story, neutrally told

Right · 2The Sun has reported that Robert Carlyle, the Trainspotting actor, has been "confirmed" for series three of Guy Ritchie's Netflix show The Gentlemen; the Daily Express and Daily Mail relayed the claim. Right · 1The Mail describes Carlyle, 65, as set to appear alongside Theo James, Vinnie Jones and Kaya Scodelario, and says sources claim he will be announced in the next cast after the show was renewed for a third season. Right · 2An unnamed source told The Sun that "Robert is an industry icon and Theo himself made it clear he wanted him to be part of the show"; Theo James had earlier said he would like "someone psychopathic like old-school Robbie Carlyle".

Right · 2The same source said Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, "is now out of contention. There was a meeting but it's been decided she won't be part of the cast". Right · 1Earlier this year rumours said Meghan could return to acting in the show. The Express says sources then claimed an offer was withdrawn after "intense backlash" from UK audiences, with Tina Brown saying it "became untenable to go forward", while other sources said no formal offer was ever made and only an initial meeting took place. Right · 1Cast members dismissed the rumour: Theo James called it a "spurious rumour" and said the practicalities were "impossible", and joked that Prince Harry was playing one of his love interests.

Right · 2The two papers attribute the remark that the idea was "a genius bit of marketing" to different people: the Express to Vinnie Jones, the Mail to Hugh Bonneville. The Mail also quotes Ray Winstone saying it was "the first I've heard of it". Right · 1The Mail says it has approached Carlyle's representatives and Netflix for comment; neither report includes a confirmation from Netflix, Carlyle or Meghan's representatives.

Every sentence links to the reporting it rests on. The pill in front of each says where its sources sit: Left, Centre or Right when one side supplies at least half of them, Mixed when they are evenly split. The number is how many outlets it cites.

Both tabloids treat the story as showbiz gossip sourced to The Sun, pairing Carlyle's reported casting with Meghan's reported exclusion; the Express leads on Meghan, the Mail on Carlyle.
Emphasis
Meghan's "plot" or "hopes" being dashed, cast members' dismissive quotes, and Carlyle's Trainspotting fame.
Leaves out or plays down
Neither has confirmation from Netflix, Carlyle or Meghan's representatives; the two disagree on who called the idea a marketing stunt. No left or centre outlets covered it.
