The story, neutrally told

Mixed · 2Mercedes-AMG has unveiled the 2028 GT SUV, its first full-size SUV developed entirely in-house and the second model built on its AMG.EA electric architecture. Mixed · 2It will come in three versions, GT 53, GT 55 and GT 63, and the flagship GT 63 produces up to 1,153 horsepower from three axial flux motors, the same setup as the AMG GT four-door coupe. Right · 1AMG claims a 0-to-60-mph time of 2.4 seconds for the GT 63.

Left · 1An 800-volt architecture supports charging of up to 710kW on the 128kWh battery (GT 63 and GT 55) and 600kW on the 106kWh battery (GT 53), according to The Verge. It reports a 10–80 percent charge in 12 minutes, or up to 450km (about 280 miles) of WLTP range in 10 minutes, and an estimated maximum range of 435 miles for the 128kWh versions. Left · 1The battery uses cylindrical cells, NCMA cathodes and silicon-containing anodes, with electrically nonconductive oil flowing around each cell for thermal management. Mixed · 2Mercedes-AMG replaced traditional mechanical roll bars with a suspension using active hydraulic elements, combined with three-stage air springs and standard six-degree active rear-axle steering. It aims to pair sports-car handling with SUV practicality.

Left · 1The GT 63 weighs 5,941lbs, which The Verge compares with the Lotus Eletre R (6,007lbs), Lucid Gravity (6,100lbs) and Porsche Cayenne Turbo Electric (5,960lbs). The Verge says the GT 63's power and charging speed beat the Porsche's. Left · 1Inside, the SUV has the MB.OS system on a 14-inch display with AI assistants from ChatGPT, Microsoft and Google. It also plays recorded AMG V8 and six-cylinder engine sounds, simulates gear shifts and adds seat vibrations, which The Verge notes some may dislike. A Predictive Performance Manager uses track-mapping data to manage motor output. Right · 1IJR says the styling draws heavily on the AMG GT four-door coupe but that the larger, more upright shape makes it less performance-focused than that model.

Mixed · 2US sales are expected to begin in summer 2027, and Mercedes has not announced pricing.
