The story, neutrally told

Mixed · 2Director Mike Flanagan said in a Reddit Ask Me Anything (AMA) on Friday 9 October 2026 that he would like to make a Jaws film and that a Jurassic film "could be a blast". Centre · 1Flanagan said he had spent much of his career thinking he would not do franchises or sequels, but now loves playing in a world he knows and respects and putting his own spin on it. Centre · 1On Jaws, Flanagan said "no one will EVER get close to the original" but that there is "a ton of room for improvement on the sequels".

Left · 1On Jurassic, Flanagan said they would want to go "really scary" and that "a true dinosaur horror film would be a blast". Left · 1The AMA promoted Flanagan's Carrie series, which Prime Video released in full, and an Exorcist film that Flanagan is working on. The A.V. Club names the film Martyrs and says its trailer debuted at New York Comic-Con. Centre · 1Deadline reported in November 2025 that Scarlett Johansson is attached to star in the Exorcist film, whose cast also includes Chiwetel Ejiofor, Laurence Fishburne, John Leguizamo, Diane Lane and Carla Gugino.

Left · 1The A.V. Club commented that a Jurassic film is probably more feasible, since Universal has let directors experiment with the brand, including the horror-minded Jurassic World: Rebirth last year. It called the Jaws wish "a pretty profound statement of confidence" because the franchise declined after leaving its original creators, with Hollywood largely giving up after 1987's Jaws: The Revenge. Left · 1Flanagan also mentioned an original project, Spirit In The Sky, which Flanagan said "might be the thesis of my career". The A.V. Club also noted Flanagan's Dark Tower TV adaptation is taking a long time to get off the ground.
