The story, neutrally told

Mixed · 2An unidentified assailant attacked a police guard with knives outside the Israeli embassy in Belgrade and was killed just after midnight on Wednesday 28 October, Serbian police said. Mixed · 2Interior Minister Ivica Dacic said the attacker was a minor whose identity had not yet been established, who shouted "Allahu Akbar" and attacked a member of the Gendarmerie with two knives. Mixed · 2Dacic said police were treating the incident as a "terrorist attack", raised the terror threat to the highest level and stepped up police presence at key locations.

Centre · 1According to Dacic, the officer "liquidated" the assailant in self-defence and was lightly wounded. Centre · 1Dacic also said security agencies had been monitoring the attacker, whom he described as a supporter of the Islamic State group who kept a black flag in support of it on his Instagram account; this is the minister's account and the coverage does not independently verify it. Mixed · 2The attack came days after Serbia's early parliamentary election, in which, according to AP, Aleksandar Vucic was defeated by a youth-led movement after almost two years of protests; Vucic and his allies still control the police while the new government is yet to be formed, and Arab News called Dacic the "outgoing" interior minister.

Centre · 1AP noted that Israel held its own parliamentary vote on Tuesday, with exit polls showing no clear winner, and recalled that in June 2024 a crossbow attacker wounded a Serbian police officer guarding the same embassy and was shot dead by a guard.

Every sentence links to the reporting it rests on. The pill in front of each says where its sources sit: Left, Centre or Right when one side supplies at least half of them, Mixed when they are evenly split. The number is how many outlets it cites.
