The story, neutrally told

Centre · 1Netflix released the first official trailer for Cyberpunk: Edgerunners season 2 on 14 October, according to Collider. Centre · 2Collider says the season is due on streaming on Tuesday, 20 October. Den of Geek says the full 10-episode season drops this fall. Centre · 2Season 2 tells a new story with a fresh cast, unconnected to season 1 or to the Cyberpunk 2077 game, though it is still set in Night City. Den of Geek names the new characters as Weak Kingsley, D and Roman Carax.

Centre · 1In an interview with Den of Geek, showrunner and executive producer Bartosz Sztybor and director Kai Ikarashi said the new season keeps the first season's core themes from a different perspective. Sztybor said David and Lucy's story was concluded and should be honoured rather than continued, and that the team did not want to rely on fan service. Centre · 1Sztybor also said the series keeps its emotional intensity: "if you want trauma, Edgerunners will deliver." Ikarashi, who was an episodic director on season 1, said the story was hard to put together and that he thinks Night City has not changed. Centre · 2The first season premiered in 2022 and was made by Studio Trigger. Den of Geek reports it drew nearly 15 million viewing hours in its first week and won Anime of the Year at the 2023 Crunchyroll Anime Awards.

Centre · 1Collider adds franchise context. CD Projekt Red has more than 100 developers on the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel, with no release date, while The Witcher 4 is scheduled for 2028. Collider also says Paramount announced last week that it is developing a Cyberpunk movie.
