The story, neutrally told

Mixed · 2Netflix will release Lupin Part 4 on Friday 23 October, with Omar Sy returning as the gentleman thief Assane Diop. Centre · 1Collider says the season has eight episodes and that it comes three years after the last new episodes, which aired in October 2023. Left · 1Netflix's synopsis says the story begins four years after the end of Part 3, with Assane still in prison, serving his sentence and keeping a promise to his son to meet their family in Senegal.

Mixed · 2A mysterious announcement signed by Lupin then says multiple museums will be hit by simultaneous heists. The thefts go ahead despite heightened security, and a camera appears to show Assane at one of the scenes, during a robbery in which Captain Belkacem is seriously injured. Left · 1Assane proclaims his innocence. To clear his name and unmask a copycat, he must escape and become Lupin again. Mixed · 2The cast includes Ludivine Sagnier, Antoine Gouy, Soufiane Guerrab, Shirine Boutella, Théo Christine (as the now older son Raoul) and Laïka Blanc-Francard.

Mixed · 2The series was created by George Kay, with François Uzan, and is inspired by Maurice Leblanc's Arsène Lupin. Gaumont produces it in collaboration with Carrousel Studios, Sy's production firm. The Hollywood Reporter says Sy is also a showrunner, alongside Louis Leterrier. Mixed · 2On its track record, Collider says the first season holds a 98% Rotten Tomatoes score and drew 99.5 million views. The Hollywood Reporter says seasons 1 and 2 rank as Netflix's fifth and ninth most popular non-English series. It adds that the show has reached the Netflix top 10 in more than 90 countries and, according to Netflix, contributed more than €90 million ($100 million) to the French economy across seasons 1-3. Left · 1In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Sy said the team took its time to balance keeping what made the show successful with novelty. He said they aimed for more production value, bigger action and a stronger, smarter rival, while bringing back the family and the familiar characters in a different setup.

Left · 1Sy also said the season was shot without the usual break and was very physical, calling it a struggle for a moment.
