The story, neutrally told

Centre · 1Screen Rant reported on 25 October that a new Lord of the Rings game has been announced for October 2027, and the game is a tabletop title, The Lord of the Rings: The King's Gambit, rather than a video game. Centre · 1The Kickstarter project is fully funded, its estimated delivery is October 2027, and Restoration Games is working on it. A Late Pledge is still open, and Screen Rant notes that the project is subject to potential delays. Centre · 1Up to four players fight over four battlefields, including Minas Tirith and Pelennor Fields, in matches of about 90 to 150 minutes. The two factions are the Servants of the Shadow and the Free Peoples, and each has its own ways to win, including through the power of the One Ring.

Centre · 1The game has a solo mode designed by Dávid Turczi, and a draft rulebook can be downloaded from Kickstarter. Several editions are offered, with miniatures, playmats and location gameboards. Centre · 1Screen Rant says it adapts an official Star Wars board game from the early 2000s, Star Wars: The Queen's Gambit. Centre · 1Collider, writing on 28 October, covers a different release. Daybreak Games and Standing Stone Games released the Wolves of Mordor expansion for The Lord of the Rings Online that afternoon.

Centre · 1The expansion comes in three editions: Standard at $39.99, Collector's at $79.99 and Ultimate Fan Bundle at $129.99. It adds a new story beyond Gorgoroth. Centre · 1Collider also mentions an early-stage open-world Middle-earth game from Warhorse Studios, the developer of the Kingdom Come games, about which little is known. It places these releases alongside the film The Hunt for Gollum, directed by and starring Andy Serkis, and The Rings of Power Season 3, which premieres on 11 November.

Every sentence links to the reporting it rests on. The pill in front of each says where its sources sit: Left, Centre or Right when one side supplies at least half of them, Mixed when they are evenly split. The number is how many outlets it cites.

Leaves out or plays down
Screen Rant's headline calls it a "game" and only the text says it is a board game. Neither outlet mentions the other's release. Collider gives little detail on the Warhorse project.
