The story, neutrally told

A migrant caravan that set out from San Pedro Sula, Honduras, has grown to nearly 600 people and is moving north through the Mexican state of Chiapas. Citing the Spanish agency EFE, Hot Air says the journey began on 20 September with 200 to 400 Honduran migrants, and that the group, called "Fe y Esperanza" ("Faith and Hope"), now includes people from Honduras, El Salvador, Guatemala, Ecuador and Haiti. DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin said the caravan has "zero chance" of reaching the US southern border.

In a statement to Fox News, DHS said the border has remained closed and secured for 16 months and that Border Patrol is monitoring the group with international partners. An unnamed DHS source told Breitbart the group will likely be broken up in southern Mexico, as the source says other caravans have been this year. Breitbart reports that a similar caravan in April dissolved after Mexican authorities intervened, and that many migrants in recent caravans want to reach Mexican cities rather than the US.

Hot Air cites DHS figures of 8,870 Border Patrol apprehensions on the southwest border in August 2026 and no releases for 16 straight months. Hot Air also notes that one widely shared video of the caravan appeared to be AI-generated and that a photo in its post showed an older caravan from 2021. Actor James Woods used the caravan to urge voters to oppose Democrats in the 2026 midterm elections, according to Breitbart.

Framing
Treated as a test of the administration's border policy, with the caravan expected to fail. Hot Air credits Trump for stopping caravans, Breitbart leads with DHS's "zero chance" line, and a third piece ties the caravan to the midterms.
Emphasis
DHS assurances, low border crossing numbers, Mexico's role in breaking up caravans, and comparisons with the Biden era.
Leaves out or plays down
Only right-leaning outlets covered the story, so there is no other-side coverage to compare. The pieces give little space to the migrants' own accounts beyond brief mentions of economic hardship, and do not independently verify the DHS claims.
Charged language
“Biden border crisis”“mob of lawbreaking migrants”“radical left's lies”“devastation Democrats bring”
For example
“no organized caravan having done so since the end of the Biden border crisis” — Breitbart
“this latest mob of lawbreaking migrants” — Breitbart
“Under Trump, the border is closed.” — Hot Air
