The story, neutrally told

Centre · 2Marshals, the CBS Yellowstone spin-off from Taylor Sheridan, was the most-watched entertainment show on television in its season 2 premiere week, with 15.14 million viewers according to Nielsen. Centre · 1Screen Rant says the week was that of October 4, which CBS marked as premiere week, and that fellow CBS drama Tracker came second; it adds that Marshals was also the biggest show on streaming. Centre · 2Both outlets present the result as a small gain on season 1. Screen Rant says the early data is a slight increase on the crowd for the March season 1 premiere, and Collider says it is a slight increase on season 1's average of about 15 million viewers.

Centre · 2The outlets give different season 1 comparisons. Collider says season 1 premiered in March with 9.52 million same-day viewers and averaged about 19.3 million over a 35-day multiplatform window. Screen Rant says season 1 was the most-watched TV show earlier this year, with 30.6 million viewers against an average of 26.5 million for Stranger Things season 5. Centre · 2Luke Grimes stars as Kayce Dutton, who leaves ranch life to join an elite U.S. Marshals unit protecting Montana. Returning cast includes Brecken Merrill as Tate Dutton, and newcomers include Logan Marshall-Green, Arielle Kebbel, Ash Santos and Tatanka Means. Centre · 1Sheridan is an executive producer. Screen Rant says the showrunner is Spencer Hudnut, formerly of SEAL Team, and that the off-screen death of Kayce's wife Monica proved controversial among many Yellowstone fans.

Centre · 2Screen Rant notes that Sheridan will leave Paramount for a $1 billion deal with NBCUniversal in January 2029 but can keep working on Paramount shows until then. The show takes a one-week break and returns Sunday, November 8, at 8 PM ET, with the courtroom drama Cupertino in its slot. Collider says Marshals also streams on Paramount+.

Framing
Both entertainment-trade outlets treat the ratings as a win for Sheridan and the Yellowstone franchise, and lead with the claim that Marshals is TV's biggest show.
Emphasis
Nielsen viewer counts, comparison with season 1, and cast and plot background. Screen Rant adds Sheridan's NBCUniversal move and the show's break. Collider adds the season 2 synopsis.
Leaves out or plays down
Neither gives a full Nielsen methodology or the figures for shows below the top two. Collider's headline and lede cite 8.2 million viewers and beating Tracker, which its body text does not explain. The two outlets' season 1 figures also differ.
