The story, neutrally told

Mixed · 2Santos captain Neymar was given a two-match suspension for covering his mouth while arguing with an opponent during Saturday's 1-1 Brazilian Serie A draw with Bahia, Brazil's Superior Court of Sports Justice (STJD) said on Wednesday. Mixed · 2The 34-year-old was sent off after an altercation with Bahia midfielder Rodrigo Nestor, and the tribunal found him guilty of violating the Vinicius Jr. rule, which forbids players from covering their mouths during on-field confrontations. Mixed · 2The STJD said the referee's report also noted that, after being sent off, Neymar ran towards the visitors' bench to confront his opponent and had to be restrained by teammates.

Mixed · 2Neymar will miss Santos' next three matches: he is already banned for Wednesday's league game against Palmeiras after accumulating three yellow cards, and he will serve two further matches for the violation. Neymar and Santos can appeal, and he is not expected back until late November. Centre · 1The ban follows an incident three months earlier, when Neymar became the first player in Brazil's top flight to be temporarily removed from the field under a new rule being tested to curb time-wasting by goalkeepers. Left · 1Al Jazeera adds that in April the International Football Association Board (IFAB) unanimously approved a rule giving a red card to players who cover their mouths during a confrontation, an amendment approved by FIFA to address inappropriate behaviour before the World Cup.

Left · 1It says the rule followed a Champions League match in which Benfica's Gianluca Prestianni made racially abusive comments directed at Vinicius Jr while pulling his jersey over his mouth, and that at the World Cup Paraguay's Miguel Almiron got a one-match suspension after becoming the first player sent off at the tournament for covering his mouth.

Every sentence links to the reporting it rests on. The pill in front of each says where its sources sit: Left, Centre or Right when one side supplies at least half of them, Mixed when they are evenly split. The number is how many outlets it cites.
