The story, neutrally told

A nor'easter caused damage from New York to Maine, flooding multiple neighborhoods. Hundreds of flights were delayed or canceled, according to ABC News. The New York Post describes the storm as deadly and says it ate away large parts of the Rockaway coastline in Queens.

At Jacob Riis Park, the storm left dangerous drop-offs, and a Parks Department worker said the sand had been carried toward Breezy Point. The Post measured a dune pile turned into a 14-foot sand cliff, and residue on railings indicated sand rose as high as 26 inches during the storm. Residents said damage varied: one reported almost 30 feet of beach lost about 4 miles east of Riis Park, and retired FDNY lieutenant Steve Closs said a new stone jetty had saved much of the beach.

City Councilwoman Joann Ariola, a Republican, called the erosion a cause for concern and urged the city's Emergency Management department and the Army Corps of Engineers to visit immediately. The Corps of Engineers said it is assessing the situation to make a plan, and that the sand loss meant the project performed as intended by limiting flood impacts on communities. The amount of sand lost and the cost of replacing it are not yet known.
