The story, neutrally told

Right · 2Employees of the Obama Foundation, which operates the Obama Presidential Center in Chicago, have announced they are moving to unionize. Right · 1The New York Post, citing a Chicago Sun-Times report, said a letter went to staff on Wednesday, about four months after the center opened in June. Right · 1The letter, which Fox News Digital reviewed and which dozens of employees signed, says workloads are increasing, benefits have been rolled back and leadership support is minimal.

Right · 2Workers say they get "vague responses" when they raise concerns, and that high turnover is taking institutional knowledge with departing colleagues. Right · 1According to the New York Post, the letter cites halted raises and promotions, higher healthcare costs and less paid time off. Right · 1The group calls itself Obama Workers United and is working with AFSCME Council 31. Fox News, citing the Daily Mail, reports that the proposed union would represent more than 250 employees in Chicago, Washington, D.C. and remote roles.

Right · 1The letter urges leadership to honour the workers' legal right to organize and not to spend resources on anti-union messaging, lawyers or meetings. Right · 2The workers also quote a 2016 statement by Barack Obama: "If I were looking for a good job that lets me build some security for my family, I'd join a union." Right · 1In a statement previously given to the Daily Mail, a foundation spokesperson said it is "deeply committed to the fundamental right of workers to organize" and approaches the process with "deep respect for unions". Fox News said it had asked the foundation whether it will voluntarily recognize the union, and its article reports no answer.

Right · 2Both outlets add financial context. The Post says the foundation's revenue fell from $210 million in 2024 to $159 million, per tax documents, and describes the center as a $900 million project. Fox News recalls its earlier reporting that CEO Valerie Jarrett earned $740,000 in 2024 and that total salaries and benefits rose from $18.5 million in 2018 to $43.7 million in 2024. Fox described the build as an $850 million project, and the foundation said at the time that pay reflected competitive market rates.

Every sentence links to the reporting it rests on. The pill in front of each says where its sources sit: Left, Centre or Right when one side supplies at least half of them, Mixed when they are evenly split. The number is how many outlets it cites.

Framing
Both outlets present the union drive as an embarrassment for the Obamas, setting workers' complaints against Barack Obama's own pro-union words and the foundation's finances and executive pay.
Emphasis
Obama's 2016 pro-union quote, the foundation's finances, and Fox's reminder of Jarrett's pay and rising salary costs.
Leaves out or plays down
Neither outlet includes comment from the union or any worker beyond the letter. The Post does not report the foundation's response. Neither covers wider labour-market context.
