The story, neutrally told

Mixed · 2Outerlight Entertainment, formerly known as First Look Entertainment, has acquired the independent film distributor Bleecker Street Media. Mixed · 2Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Mixed · 2Bleecker Street CEO Kent Sanderson and its chief marketing officer Tyler DiNapoli will remain with the company, and it will keep control of its slate, acquisitions, distribution, marketing and filmmaker relationships.

Centre · 1Deadline reports that, with Outerlight's backing, Bleecker plans to increase investment in its existing film business and expand new initiatives, including its sister cinema-event label Crosswalk, and that its current slate and commitments will continue without disruption. Mixed · 2Sanderson said in a statement that Outerlight shares Bleecker's belief in the power of cinema and the importance of theatrical moviegoing, and that its long-term backing gives the company additional capacity to pursue opportunities. Mixed · 2Bleecker Street was founded in 2014 by Andrew Karpen, who died in May 2025 aged 59, according to IndieWire; Sanderson took over as CEO after his death.

Mixed · 2IndieWire says Bleecker joins Outerlight's Topic Studios, with the two labels continuing to operate separately; Deadline lists Topic Studios, Puzzle Pictures and investments in MHz Choice and Passionflix among Outerlight's holdings. Left · 1The Hollywood Reporter says Outerlight's backer is eBay billionaire Pierre Omidyar, and that there is no deal tying Bleecker to Topic, which will keep taking its projects to other distributors on the open market. Left · 1The Hollywood Reporter also notes that Outerlight backs the streamer Passionflix, which is run by Elon Musk's sister Tosca, and calls this ironic given that Bleecker is releasing the Musk documentary.

Mixed · 2Variety and Deadline say Crosswalk's recent releases include Hadestown: The Musical and Stray Kids: The DominATE Experience; Deadline adds that Hadestown grossed more than $20 million in the US and that Crosswalk has George Michael: The Faith Tour opening in December. Centre · 1Deadline says Bleecker's library is close to one hundred titles and that it currently has Alex Gibney's documentary Musk in release, with fall releases including A Talent for Murder, Tender Loving Care, Victorian Psycho and The Liberation. Centre · 1Bleecker was advised by Sandy Climan of Entertainment Media Ventures and Matthew Wilkens of 44 Greenwich, while Pryor Cashman represented Outerlight.
