The story, neutrally told

Mixed · 2More than 100 humanitarian and human rights organisations said in a joint statement on Friday 9 October 2026 that the Gaza ceasefire "exists only on paper", a year after the agreement. Mixed · 2The statement said Israeli attacks, shootings and military operations have killed more than 1,400 Palestinians since the ceasefire, including at least 324 children according to Anadolu Agency and at least 327 according to Al Jazeera. Left · 1Signatories named in the coverage include Amnesty International, the Norwegian Refugee Council, Save the Children, Oxfam and Greenpeace.

Mixed · 2Save the Children chief executive Inger Ashing said a ceasefire is meaningless if children keep being killed and families cannot rebuild, adding that "nearly one child has been killed every day" since it was announced. Mixed · 2Norwegian Refugee Council secretary-general Jan Egeland said Israeli restrictions on equipment and construction materials still prevent recovery. Mixed · 2The groups said Israeli forces have moved the so-called Yellow Line, set out in the ceasefire framework, deeper into Gaza, squeezing Palestinians into a more crowded area.

Centre · 1According to the statement, nearly 2 million people need shelter and more than 80% of Gaza's structures are damaged. A building collapse in Gaza City in September killed 21 people, including 12 children, and winter is approaching. Mixed · 2It also said none of Gaza's 36 hospitals operates at full capacity, more than 18,500 patients (at least 4,000 of them children) need medical evacuation and over 1,000 have died waiting, and 1.4 million people face crisis-level hunger or worse through the end of the year. Mixed · 2The organisations urged governments to halt the killings, ensure unhindered aid access and support reconstruction and accountability; Amnesty's Agnes Callamard said "Accountability cannot be buried under the rubble".

Left · 1Al Jazeera added that the ceasefire was announced by US President Donald Trump under the Gaza Board of Peace framework, and cited the Palestinian Ministry of Health: at least 1,471 Palestinians killed and 5,189 injured since 10 October 2025, and more than 74,000 killed overall since October 2023. It said the ministry counts only deaths registered at hospitals, so the true toll is likely higher. Left · 1Al Jazeera also reported that on Friday Israeli forces shot dead at least one Palestinian in central Gaza and fired on Bani Suheila in Khan Younis, and that at least eight Palestinians were killed on Thursday. Neither article carries an Israeli response.

Every sentence links to the reporting it rests on. The pill in front of each says where its sources sit: Left, Centre or Right when one side supplies at least half of them, Mixed when they are evenly split. The number is how many outlets it cites.
