The story, neutrally told

A parent has been arrested after a toddler was found with a loaded gun at a daycare in Canton, Michigan, on Monday. Canton is just outside Detroit, and officers responded on Monday morning and secured the weapon, according to Canton police. Police Chief Joseph Bialy said an instructor in the room safely removed the firearm from the child, and that no one was injured.

Bialy said the child's other parent is a police officer in a neighbouring jurisdiction, but that the gun was a personal handgun, not a service weapon. He said he did not believe there was any "ill intent" and stressed that firearms must be kept secure where children are or may be present. The daycare, Children's World Early Learning Center, said the incident was out of its control, and that it will search children's backpacks on arrival. WDIV reported the family was disenrolled.

The charges are not yet clear; the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office told ABC News the parent is expected to be arraigned on Thursday.
