The story, neutrally told

Centre · 2French rider Paul Seixas, 20, won the Giro di Lombardia on Saturday 10 October, riding solo to the first Monument victory of his career. Centre · 1Spain's Enric Mas finished second and Italy's Giulio Ciccone third. Centre · 2Seixas attacked 19 km from the finish in Como, Italy, on the Civiglio climb; Britain's Tom Pidcock and Ciccone were the only riders able to follow his wheel.

Centre · 1He dropped both rivals a few hundred metres later and rode alone over the final 18 km. Centre · 1The title had been won by Tadej Pogacar for the last five years, but the Slovenian missed the race after crashing at the Vuelta a Espana two months ago. Centre · 2It was Seixas's third appearance in the race; he was seventh last year and second behind Pogacar at the most recent Liege–Bastogne–Liege, and he finished fourth in this year's Tour de France.

Centre · 2CNA reports he became the youngest Monument winner since 1944 and the youngest ever winner of the Giro di Lombardia; France 24's introduction describes him as the fourth-youngest winner of a Monument race. Centre · 2The Decathlon–CMA CGM rider is the first Frenchman to win a Monument since Julian Alaphilippe at Milan–San Remo in 2019, and the first to win in Lombardy since Thibaut Pinot in 2018. Centre · 1The win came two weeks after a disappointing World Championships, where Seixas started among the favourites and finished 15th.
