The story, neutrally told

Left · 1On Thursday 8 October 2026 the PKK told the ANF Kurdish news agency it had withdrawn all its armed forces, inside and outside Turkey, that could be considered near the border. Left · 1The group said it took the step to deny the government any excuse or justification for what it called an inadequate approach to the process, and that its strategy of ending armed struggle against Turkey and moving to democratic political struggle had been fully fulfilled. Left · 1The PKK warned that if its steps were not understood and no steps were taken on "freedom laws", primarily the freedom of its leader Abdullah Ocalan, the Turkish state would continue its century-old policies of denial and destruction.

Left · 1Turkey's parliament voted in August for a law offering limited amnesty to PKK militants, the first legislative step towards ending a conflict that has left some 50,000 people dead; the law did not say what will happen to Ocalan, 77, who has spent 27 years in solitary confinement on Imrali island. Left · 1In September a top adviser to President Erdogan said Ocalan would join a disarmament panel as part of the peace process, but that this did not mean he would be released. Centre · 1On Monday 12 October, Turkish security sources told Anadolu Agency that the PKK/KCK had evacuated four shelters, named "Hebat," "Yajk," "Sabri" and "Sason," in the Bazi area of Metina in northern Iraq on 8 October.

Centre · 1The sources said the move cleared shelters considered a risk of renewed conflict under the "Strengthening National Solidarity and Social Integration" initiative, and showed the process was continuing. Centre · 1They added that members who return to Turkey under prospective legal arrangements are expected to go through social integration, with education and economic programmes planned.

Every sentence links to the reporting it rests on. The pill in front of each says where its sources sit: Left, Centre or Right when one side supplies at least half of them, Mixed when they are evenly split. The number is how many outlets it cites.
