The story, neutrally told

Centre · 2The Pokémon Company has announced that Pokémon UNITE will end service on Tuesday, 23 March 2027, at 00:00 UTC, which is 8 p.m. ET on 22 March for U.S. players. Centre · 2The shutdown covers the Nintendo Switch and mobile versions; Screen Rant also lists the Nintendo Switch 2. After that date players will no longer be able to log in or take part in battles. Centre · 2The game is a free-to-start five-on-five team battle title that launched on Switch in July 2021 and reached mobile that September. Screen Rant describes it as a MOBA and a modest hit.

Centre · 2Sales of Aeos Gems, the in-game currency, and new UNITE Club memberships and automatic renewals ended on 27 October. Existing gems can be spent until service closes, and current members keep their benefits through their paid period. Centre · 2An update on 12 November will add special Unite coins, earned through login bonuses and missions, that can be exchanged for items such as Unite licenses and Holowear. A Grand Shop Sale offers discounts of up to 80%, and past cosmetics are planned to return. Centre · 2The same update adds a Library feature that lets players view certain records and content, such as collected cosmetics and achievements, after service ends. Players must complete the required Library data download before the shutdown, or they cannot use the feature afterwards.

Centre · 2Library data generally cannot be transferred to another device, and support for the feature will not be available after service ends. Collider adds that deleted or lost data may be unrecoverable. Centre · 2Collider reports that the announcement gives no reason for the shutdown. Screen Rant notes that the game was dropped from the World Championships, announced in July, which led players to fear its closure. The Pokémon UNITE Aeos Crown 2027 Tokyo tournament will go ahead as announced, with qualifiers starting 5 December.

Framing
Both outlets, from North America, report the closure as a fan-facing service notice. Screen Rant leads with the loss ("unplayable forever") and a wistful tone. Collider leads with the date and practical details of what players can still do.
Emphasis
Shutdown date, end of purchases, the November Library feature and download deadline, and what players can still collect or do before closure.
Leaves out or plays down
Neither gives a reason for the closure beyond Screen Rant's link to the World Championships removal. Collider does not mention the World Championships removal, and Screen Rant does not mention the Tokyo tournament or the 80% shop sale.
Charged language
“Officially Becoming Unplayable Forever”“Pulling the Plug”“controversial Pokémon game”
