The story, neutrally told

Centre · 1A Toluna Harris Interactive survey published by broadcaster RTL on Monday puts Marine Le Pen of the National Rally at 35% to 37% in the first round of the 2027 presidential election, depending on which candidates are included. Right · 1A separate Odoxa poll reported by Reuters on Wednesday has Le Pen first with 37% or 38% depending on the scenario tested, based on 12,000 people surveyed between September 24 and October 7. Right · 1In the Odoxa poll, the hard-left Jean-Luc Mélenchon is second with 18% or 18.5%, and was tested against a single centrist candidate: Édouard Philippe would get 17% and Gabriel Attal 11%, both being former prime ministers under Emmanuel Macron.

Right · 1Reuters reports that Odoxa sees Le Pen beating Mélenchon easily in a run-off, and also winning, by a narrower margin, against Philippe. Centre · 1The Harris Interactive poll found Le Pen's support unchanged despite allegations about National Rally leader Jordan Bardella: Mediapart reported antisemitic writings attributed to him from 2013, which he denies, about two weeks before the poll. Centre · 1In that survey 51% said Le Pen would make a good president (up 6 points) against 47% for Bardella, and 54% thought she could keep her promises (up 6 points) against 50% for Bardella.

Mixed · 2Macron is barred by term limits from running again, and Reuters says his growing unpopularity has hollowed out France's centrist ground. Right · 1The first round is due on April 18, 2027, with a second round on May 2; Le Pen and Mélenchon have each run in 2012, 2017 and 2022, and Le Pen lost the 2017 and 2022 run-offs to Macron.

Every sentence links to the reporting it rests on. The pill in front of each says where its sources sit: Left, Centre or Right when one side supplies at least half of them, Mixed when they are evenly split. The number is how many outlets it cites.
