The story, neutrally told

Mixed · 2Prime Video has given a series order to 'Rally', a drama set in the world of elite competitive tennis. Mixed · 2Julie Plec, known for The Vampire Diaries and We Were Liars, writes, showruns and executive produces. Universal Television, Entertainment 360 and Amazon MGM Studios are the producing companies. Mixed · 2Eight-time Grand Slam singles champion Andre Agassi is an executive producer, along with Plec, Emily Cummins (for Plec's My So Called Company), Entertainment 360's Guymon Casady and Justin Gimelstob.

Mixed · 2The official synopsis places the story at a hyper-competitive elite tennis academy, where ambitious young players discover that the loneliest sport in the world demands sacrificing the very connections that might make winning worth it. Mixed · 2Casady said the idea came from watching his kids train and cope with the pressure of elite junior tennis at the IMG Academy. Centre · 1Deadline reports that the series was first set up at Universal Television a year ago under Plec's overall deal. It is her second Prime Video series, after We Were Liars, which is returning for a second season. Deadline also says it is Agassi's first producing job, and that Gimelstob executive produced Apple TV's Agassi documentary Open.

Mixed · 2Executives and producers praised the project. Peter Friedlander of Amazon MGM Studios called Plec 'a masterful storyteller'. Universal TV president Erin Underhill said Plec has 'an exceptional talent for crafting emotionally rich, irresistibly addictive worlds'. Agassi said he wants an 'entertaining and most importantly, authentic look at a beautifully complicated sport'. Cummins, a tennis fan, called the work 'the most fun we’ve had at work in a while'.

Every sentence links to the reporting it rests on. The pill in front of each says where its sources sit: Left, Centre or Right when one side supplies at least half of them, Mixed when they are evenly split. The number is how many outlets it cites.
