The story, neutrally told

Centre · 2Haas announced on Thursday 15 October that Brazilian Rafael Camara will race for the team next season after signing a multi-year deal. Centre · 1Camara is 21, a Ferrari Academy driver, and leads the Formula Two standings by seven points over Red Bull-backed Bulgarian Nikola Tsolov with two rounds remaining; he won the F3 title last year. Centre · 1He replaces Frenchman Esteban Ocon, whose departure was announced last month, at the Ferrari-powered team.

Centre · 1Anadolu Agency reports that Camara was chosen after an evaluation involving four drivers, ahead of reigning F2 champion Leonardo Fornaroli and Haas reserves Jack Doohan and Ryo Hirakawa, all assessed in previous-generation F1 cars. Centre · 2Camara, Fornaroli and Hirakawa tested at Portimao in Portugal in August, while Doohan was evaluated separately; Camara drove last year's VF-25 and has also tested with Ferrari. Centre · 2Team principal Ayao Komatsu said he was "really excited to sign such a young, amazing talent", praising Camara's speed in difficult moments such as qualifying in Monaco and Montreal and saying the driver showed "more than just raw speed" at Portimao.

Centre · 1Camara called it an important step in his career and said he would focus on preparing for the challenge and working closely with the team. Centre · 2Haas have not yet confirmed their other 2027 driver, but Briton Oliver Bearman, also a Ferrari Academy graduate, is widely expected to stay for a third season. Centre · 1CNA adds that Camara will be the second Brazilian on the grid alongside Gabriel Bortoleto of Audi, that the signing dashed Jack Doohan's immediate hopes of a full-time seat, and that Haas are seventh of 11 teams before next week's U.S. Grand Prix in Austin, with Bearman having scored 23 of their 30 points.
