The story, neutrally told

Centre · 2Channel 4 has confirmed that the six-part psychological thriller Hunting Alice Bell will premiere on Wednesday 11 November at 9pm. Centre · 2The second episode airs the following day at the same time, and the full series will be available to stream after the first episode is broadcast. Centre · 2The series was created by comedian David Baddiel and film critic Peter Bradshaw; Digital Spy says they wrote it alongside Polly Buckle and Kate Verghese.

Centre · 1The official synopsis describes Alice Bell as a former nurse, and the lover and accomplice of a notorious anaesthetist serial killer, now living in Britain under a new identity. Centre · 2When Fran Da Silva is accused online of being Alice Bell, her family life collapses amid mob hate; she then finds other accused women, and the group band together to clear their names, though one of them may be the real Alice Bell. Centre · 2The cast includes Ralf Little, Alexandra Roach as Fran, Amanda Abbington, Emily Barber, Toni O'Rourke, Christina Bennington, Rudi Dharmalingam and Simon Pegg as Dr Jason Nash.

Centre · 1Baddiel has said the idea was inspired by real cases of women in the UK being terrorised by local people who suspected them of being national hate figures, and that it grew into a six-part drama about rumour-mongering intensified by social media. Centre · 1When the series was announced last year, Rachel Gesua of Clapperboard Studios called it a story for our times about what happens when the online mob come for a group of ordinary women.
