The story, neutrally told

Left · 2The Financial Times reported that Donald Trump Jr. went hunting in Mongolia in late August 2026 with Umar Kremlev, president of the International Boxing Association (IBA), and spent two days with Kremlev at a camp in the western province of Uvs. Left · 2According to Raw Story, the FT reconstructed the meeting from flight records, social media posts, public documents and people on the ground. Meduza adds that Kremlev arrived with Arthur Martirosov, a partner at the venture fund Voskhod, which is under U.S. sanctions, and that Republican donor Kevin Small was also on the trip. Left · 2A local guide told the FT that Trump Jr. killed an Altai argali, a large-horned mountain sheep listed as endangered.

Left · 2One participant said the two men tried not to be photographed together. Kremlev's videos, including two posted to Telegram on August 30, show two organisers of Trump Jr.'s hunts but not Trump Jr. Left · 1Meduza reports that a charity auction raffled a trip to Mongolia with Trump Jr., and that one winner joined the hunt. Kremlev did not take part in the auction. After the hunt, Trump Jr. returned to Ulaanbaatar and held unofficial meetings, including a dinner with Mongolian President Ukhnaagiin Khürelsükh. Trump Jr. travelled with a Secret Service detail, and the U.S. Embassy paid $18,715 for hotel rooms linked to an unspecified 'visit' by agents from August 23 to September 6. Left · 2Kremlev had earlier covered part of the cost of Trump Jr.'s wedding to Bettina Anderson in the Bahamas. Raw Story says this was hundreds of thousands of dollars for a three-day celebration with a private island and fireworks; Anderson called it a gift from a friend, and President Donald Trump later said his son had repaid Kremlev.

Left · 1Kremlev, whose birth surname Meduza gives as Lutfulloyev, has led the IBA since 2020. Meduza says the group has received tens of millions of dollars from Gazprom and that the International Olympic Committee stripped it of the right to run Olympic boxing in 2023, citing among other reasons a lack of financial transparency. Meduza also cites Proekt as reporting that Kremlev acquired the Rolf car dealership in 2024 through a friendship with Alexey Rubezhny, head of Putin's security service. Left · 2A representative for Trump Jr. said a mutual friend from hunting circles made the introduction, and that Trump Jr. has a personal friendship, not a business relationship, with Kremlev, based on hunting, fishing and the outdoors. The representative said the hunt should not surprise anyone. Left · 2Holden Triplett, a former counterintelligence director at the National Security Council, told the FT that Russian security and intelligence services will try to 'weaponize' any relationship with a high-value person, whatever the intentions.

Left · 2On political scrutiny, Raw Story says Sen. John Curtis (R-UT) has pushed for a congressional investigation over the wedding payments, and that the two men shared a stage at an IBA event in Istanbul in September 2025. Meduza says Democrats in Congress launched an investigation.

Every sentence links to the reporting it rests on. The pill in front of each says where its sources sit: Left, Centre or Right when one side supplies at least half of them, Mixed when they are evenly split. The number is how many outlets it cites.

Emphasis
Kremlev's Russian connections, the wedding payments, the endangered animal, counterintelligence risk. Meduza adds the Gazprom funding, the IOC sanction, Secret Service costs and the dinner with Mongolia's president.
Leaves out or plays down
