The story, neutrally told

Mixed · 2The Palestinian Prisoners Society, a Palestinian rights group, said in a report released on Wednesday that Israel has detained more than 2,000 Palestinian children since October 2023. Mixed · 2The group said at least 350 of those children remain in detention under what it called "harsh conditions". Mixed · 2It said Israeli forces arrested six children from the Hebron area of the occupied West Bank around Tuesday night; Anadolu names the towns as Sa'ir and Al-Shuyukh.

Mixed · 2The society said the number of children detained from Gaza is unclear because thousands of people, including children, are missing there and because of what it called a continuing practice of "enforced disappearance". Mixed · 2It described Israel's practice of holding detainees without charge or a release date as an additional violation that leaves children facing an uncertain future and deprives them of family and educational stability. Mixed · 2The report listed practices it said Israel uses against children, from intimidation and arrest to torture, starvation, isolation and denial of health care, and Anadolu adds that the group said Israeli courts contribute to continued violations amid a lack of accountability.

Mixed · 2The group cited the case of 15-year-old Mohammed Hamid, who it said contracted scabies in Ofer Prison, developed serious infections, underwent heart surgery, was admitted to intensive care in critical condition and had a leg amputated. Centre · 1Anadolu adds that, according to the group, Hamid has received treatment for about three months since Israel released him after his health deteriorated, which the group called "an evasion of responsibility for his medical care". Mixed · 2The group also cited Walid Ahmed (named Walid Khaled Ahmad by Anadolu), a 17-year-old who died in Megiddo Prison in March 2025; Anadolu quotes medical findings at the time of severe emaciation, malnutrition and dehydration.

Mixed · 2Al Jazeera reports that an Israeli judge halted the investigation into his death in December, saying there was evidence of starvation but no definitive cause of death had been established; Anadolu says only that the investigation was closed. Left · 1Al Jazeera also reports that Ahmed's friend Mohammed Ibrahim, a teenager from Florida, was released after months of advocacy, and that two other US citizens, Abdalkareem Issa Ahmed Safi and 16-year-old Adam Wajeh Abdelfattah Karakrah, were held without charge. Karakrah's release was reportedly reversed after his family secured bail. Mixed · 2The society called for "real international action" to release arbitrarily detained children and to end torture, starvation and denial of treatment; Anadolu adds calls to end administrative detention and coercive interrogations.

Mixed · 2Both outlets give wider context: Al Jazeera says Israel has detained more than 25,000 Palestinians in the West Bank and thousands more in Gaza since October 2023, while Anadolu cites more than 74,000 Palestinians killed in Gaza. Both use the word "genocide" in their own voice. Neither article carries a response from Israeli authorities to the report's claims.

Every sentence links to the reporting it rests on. The pill in front of each says where its sources sit: Left, Centre or Right when one side supplies at least half of them, Mixed when they are evenly split. The number is how many outlets it cites.
