The story, neutrally told

Rome's MIA Market, which covers international TV series, animation, feature films and documentaries, will hold its 12th edition from Oct. 19 to 23. Under the new format, the market expands to several hotels on Via Veneto and overlaps with the Oct. 13-25 Rome Film Festival, whereas in recent years the two were held on separate dates. MIA chief Gaia Tridente told Variety the aim is for the market to be more rooted in the city and for Rome to become a major film and TV industry hub during this period; buyers will automatically get accreditation to the festival's morning press-and-industry screenings and its Alice in the City sidebar.

Guests include director Edward Berger, documentarian Asif Kapadia, filmmaker Kim Longinotto and Trevor Roth of Roddenberry Entertainment, which is marking 60 years of Star Trek; Variety adds fireside chats with Banijay's Marco Bassetti, Studiocanal's Anna Marsh and Bad Wolf's Jane Tranter. The market will show about 100 projects from 43 countries: Variety says more than 100 and The Hollywood Reporter says 104, including industry programs such as the Co-Production & Gap Financing Market and Work-in-Progress sessions. Variety highlights a preview of Sky Italia's Gucci series "Gucci: Game Over", directed by Gabriele Muccino, and a new Animation Series Gap Financing Market.

Panels include one on producing with AI featuring Mediawan's Max Wiedemann, AiMation's Tom Paton and BriskPace Studios' Al Munteanu; The Hollywood Reporter also lists panels on the creator economy, horror, vertical dramas, and algorithms and content diversity. The Hollywood Reporter says the edition is supported by Italy's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and ICE – Italian Trade Agency, with backing from Creative Europe MEDIA and the Italian Ministry of Culture.
