The story, neutrally told

Centre · 1Ron Perlman, 76, told Deadline in an exclusive interview that he is aiming to play Ernest Hemingway next year in a biopic set in Cuba, produced by his Asylum Studios banner. Centre · 1Perlman said he will also co-direct the film with Mexican cinematographer Gabriel Beristain, who first took him to Cuba, and that the story covers Hemingway's last couple of years leading up to his suicide. Centre · 1According to Perlman, the story came from Cuban writer Enrique Cirules, and he said the Hemingway estate backs the project and has offered the Finca Vigía, now a museum, as a shooting location.

Centre · 1Perlman said he wants to finish the Hemingway film before Legends starts, preferring to shoot in Havana in January or February because it is cooler and he will wear prosthetics. Centre · 1Screen Rant, drawing on the Deadline interview, reported that Legends will begin filming in March 2027. Centre · 1Legends was announced in August as a meta thriller for FX and Hulu, co-developed by Charlie Hunnam and Jonathan Groff, in which the Sons of Anarchy cast play fictionalized versions of themselves at a reunion convention that spirals out of control.

Centre · 1Katey Sagal, Maggie Siff, Mark Boone Junior, Tommy Flanagan, Kim Coates and Theo Rossi are confirmed alongside Perlman; he joked that Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan will not be involved, saying 'Not over my dead body.' Centre · 1The interview also covered Asylum Studios, launched a year earlier: Perlman said two films, Kodak Super XX and Sedona, are in post-production, with a comedy called Auxiliary Man also close to production, and that the company is still building funding. Centre · 1Perlman said he is not against artificial intelligence in film as long as it is not 'the tail that’s wagging the dog', and Asylum partnered with Google and 100 Zeros, which put money into Sedona in return for spatial-video content.
