The story, neutrally told

Mixed · 2The US State Department said on Tuesday, 13 October 2026, that Secretary of State Marco Rubio will travel between October 17 and 22 to Uzbekistan and India. Mixed · 2In Samarkand he will take part in a "C5+1 Ministerial" and hold bilateral meetings with officials from all five Central Asian countries: Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and the Kyrgyz Republic. Centre · 1He will lead a US commercial delegation of more than 200 business leaders, which the State Department said would usher in "a new era of strengthened commercial cooperation for the United States and Central Asia".

Mixed · 2In India he will visit Mumbai and Jamnagar, meeting senior government officials to strengthen the US-India strategic partnership, exchange views on regional and global dynamics and discuss prospects for enhanced energy cooperation, and he will also meet business leaders on investment and economic cooperation, according to the State Department. Left · 1The Hindu says Jamnagar is significant because it hosts Reliance's refinery, described as the world's largest single-site facility, able to process 1.4 million barrels of crude oil per day. Left · 1The Hindu also notes that in March President Donald Trump announced the US would build its first refinery in 50 years, at Brownsville, Texas, with Reliance Industries investment, at a cost Trump put at $300 billion.

Mixed · 2It will be Rubio's second visit to India this year; in May he attended the Quad Foreign Ministers' meeting hosted by External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar in New Delhi, and AFP says that trip covered four cities over four days. Centre · 1AFP adds context on US-India ties: it says successive US administrations saw India as a like-minded partner as China rose, but that Trump has shaken up that approach by temporarily imposing high tariffs and warming to both China and Pakistan. It also notes Trump hosted the five Central Asian leaders at the White House last November.

Every sentence links to the reporting it rests on. The pill in front of each says where its sources sit: Left, Centre or Right when one side supplies at least half of them, Mixed when they are evenly split. The number is how many outlets it cites.
