The story, neutrally told

Russian strikes hit a National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine building and a medical facility in Kyiv on Monday 28 September. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said at least one person was killed and six injured, including three children. He said the academy building took a direct hit and that a separate strike hit a medical facility in central Kyiv in the afternoon, where responders fought a large fire.

Ukraine's state language commissioner said two floors of the academy were destroyed and people climbed out of windows to escape the flames. The commissioner's office reported two scientists had died and others could not be reached, while cautioning that casualty information was still being clarified; BNO News said this could not immediately be reconciled with Zelenskyy's figure. Local media identified the medical facility as Dobrobut and reported that its upper floors were wrecked.

Zelenskyy called for stronger international pressure on the financing and production of Russian weapons and asked partners in Europe and America to respond. CBS News, in a short video item, said Russia is ramping up its daytime strikes on Ukraine. The New York Times said the academy was struck by a drone and described its research role, including in astronomy and military technology.

Russia's response was not reported in the coverage.
