The story, neutrally told

Mixed · 2On Monday 5 October 2026 Saudi Arabia's Foreign Ministry strongly condemned what it called continued Houthi attacks on civilians and on civilian and economic infrastructure in the kingdom. Mixed · 2The statement named repeated attacks on Mecca and Medina, Riyadh and other Saudi cities, and attacks on Saudi vessels in the southern Red Sea and the Bab el-Mandeb strait; Anadolu lists the other cities as Abha, Khamis Mushait, Jazan, Najran, Taif and Yanbu. Mixed · 2The ministry said that since the Houthi takeover of 2014 the kingdom had made continuous efforts toward a comprehensive political solution in Yemen, but that the Houthis rejected peace and escalated militarily, deepening Yemen's humanitarian and economic suffering "in service of" foreign agendas.

Mixed · 2Riyadh reaffirmed its right to defend its territory, resources and sovereignty and to take all necessary measures to protect citizens and residents, in accordance with international law, and renewed its full political and military support for Yemen's Presidential Leadership Council and government. Mixed · 2It called on the international community, in particular the permanent members of the UN Security Council, to fulfil their responsibilities and implement relevant resolutions, and to fully support the Yemeni government against the Houthis. Centre · 1Anadolu reported that the statement followed Presidential Leadership Council chairman Rashad al-Alimi announcing an operation called Dawn of Yemen to restore state institutions and retake Sanaa, and that the Yemeni army said it had taken Bab el-Mandeb and the city of Mokha and advanced along the west coast; there was no immediate Houthi comment.

Centre · 1Anadolu also noted that Saudi Arabia has said the Houthis targeted Mecca and Medina with missiles and drones, which the group denies, and that the Houthis announced a maritime blockade on Saudi Arabia on 20 July, citing an alleged Saudi naval and aerial blockade of Houthi-held areas.
