The story, neutrally told

Mixed · 2Michelle Hooper is leaving Searchlight Pictures, where she has been EVP of marketing for two decades. Centre · 1Deadline, which called it an exclusive, said Hooper's departure is part of cuts that took place at the Disney studio earlier this month. Variety's report does not give a reason. Mixed · 2Hooper joined in 2006 and led publicity, awards and creative marketing. Deadline puts the studio's tally during her tenure at 183 Oscar nominations and 49 wins, including five Best Picture winners: Slumdog Millionaire, 12 Years a Slave, Birdman, The Shape of Water and Nomadland. Variety gives the figures as nearly 200 Oscar nominations with 49 wins.

Mixed · 2On Golden Globes, Deadline credits her work with 32 awards from 133 nominations, while Variety cites more than 130 nominations. Mixed · 2This awards season she was leading campaigns for Martin McDonagh's Wild Horse Nine and, according to Deadline, Tony Gilroy's Behemoth! (spelled "Behemonth!" in Variety). Mixed · 2Before Searchlight, Hooper spent four years as VP of entertainment publicity at Fox Broadcasting, working on series including American Idol, 24, Arrested Development, Family Guy and The Simpsons. Earlier she was director of entertainment communications at CBS Entertainment, where she worked on the publicity campaign for Survivor.

Centre · 1Deadline lists other releases from her time, including A Complete Unknown, A Real Pain, Poor Things and the streaming original Flamin' Hot. It says she was known internally as "the closer" and notes her Publicist Guild of America showmanship award and her membership of AMPAS and BAFTA. Left · 1Variety quotes an unnamed longtime colleague praising her creative insight and collaboration, calling her exit "a loss for the studio." It adds that she appeared in its 2025 Women's Impact Report, which credited the team with 10 Oscar nominations for A Complete Unknown and A Real Pain, including Kieran Culkin's supporting actor win.

Every sentence links to the reporting it rests on. The pill in front of each says where its sources sit: Left, Centre or Right when one side supplies at least half of them, Mixed when they are evenly split. The number is how many outlets it cites.
