The story, neutrally told

A car was found on its side after a single-vehicle collision on Millhouse Woods Lane in Cottingham at around 8.30am on Thursday 1 October 2026, according to Humberside Police. Hull City's French midfielder Lucas Gourna-Douath, 23, is understood to have been driving; the Irish Independent said a Mercedes was pictured on its side, while CNA cited The Telegraph as reporting that the player's car was on its side. Police said no one was injured, and Hull City said it was aware of images circulating on social media and could confirm that no one was harmed.

The road leads to the club's training ground and was the scene of an earlier crash on 11 September, when Wales winger Sorba Thomas, 27, escaped without injury after a Land Rover overturned onto its roof. CNA noted the road has a 30 mph (48 kph) speed limit. Local councillor Phil Redshaw wrote on Facebook that he had written to the club on Sunday asking it to remind staff to drive with more care when heading for the training ground.

On the pitch, newly promoted Hull are eighth in the Premier League after eight points from five games, following a 2-1 defeat at Newcastle before the international break, and host Everton on 11 October.
