The story, neutrally told

Unabomber, a Netflix crime drama directed by Janus Metz, was released on September 25, 2026 and centres on Ted Kaczynski. Jacob Tremblay plays Kaczynski, and the film switches between his Harvard years in the late 1950s and the manhunt that led to his capture in 1996. Russell Crowe and recent Emmy winner Shailene Woodley also star.

Woodley plays Joanne, a fictional FBI agent who uses linguistics from Kaczynski's manifesto to track him down. In an interview with Collider, Woodley said she read the manifesto but treated the script as her guide, and that Joanne relies on instinct that colleagues dismiss. She said Joanne acts with integrity, and that a flash of guilt over leaking that Kaczynski's brother gave him up reflected a compromise of her personal values.

Screen Rant reports the film has been Netflix's top movie worldwide since Saturday, with 16.4 million views in its first three days. It holds a 28% Rotten Tomatoes critics' score and a 50% audience score, according to Screen Rant. Screen Rant cites complaints of a disjointed narrative and historical inaccuracies, quotes Variety and The Wrap's negative reviews, and praises Crowe and Tremblay as the film's saving grace.
