The story, neutrally told

Centre · 2Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence, honoured the winners of the third Create Apps Championship on Wednesday 7 October 2026 at Emirates Towers Boulevard. Centre · 1Gulf News reported that the third edition drew 9,754 entries from 153 countries, and that across three editions the championship has received 15,564 applications, contributed to 1,700 prototypes and supported the launch of more than 140 applications. Centre · 1In a post on X, Sheikh Hamdan put the three-edition total at more than 15,000 entries and said ideas and talent from around the world had come together in Dubai, where innovators can access the support and investment needed to turn ideas into impact.

Centre · 1The National reported that POP by Kwelio, a smart medication-adherence app using behavioural science and predictive analytics, won both the Longevity App of the Year award and the title of Dubai's App of the Year. Centre · 2At the same ceremony Sheikh Hamdan announced the Create AI Agents Championship, which The National says replaces the app competition; Sheikh Hamdan said it would further advance Dubai's use of AI to deliver "faster, easier and more efficient services" and invited innovators worldwide to take part. Centre · 1The new competition focuses on autonomous AI-agent systems and accepts ideas, early-stage prototypes and minimum viable products, but not fully commercialised solutions; it has four categories: Best Societal, Best Personal, Best Business and Best Youth AI Agent, the last for entrants under 21.

Centre · 1Each category winner will receive a Dh550,000 ($150,000) grant, and one overall winner will be named AI Agent of the Year with Dh1 million, bringing total prize money above Dh2.5 million. Centre · 1Registration is open, with workshops and a Digital Academy offering training and mentorship planned for November and December. Centre · 1The Create Apps Championship is organised by the Dubai Chamber of Digital Economy as part of the Create Apps in Dubai initiative, and Gulf News links the launch to Dubai's strategy of treating digital skills, AI and tech entrepreneurship as key to its economy.
