The story, neutrally told

MixedShivon Zilis, an AI executive who shares four children with Elon Musk, said in a long post on X that her relationship with him had ended abruptly. MixedShe wrote: "It's hard to go from in love to let go in a week with no warning, but that's just how it is sometimes." MixedZilis posted by quote-tweeting the account Big Tech Alert, which had reported that Musk no longer followed her on X, a report that fuelled speculation about their status.

LeftRaw Story reported that Zilis also shared a screenshot of what she presented as one of their last text exchanges, with a contact saved as "E", timestamped just after 11 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 24, which mentions a White House dinner for Chinese President Xi Jinping. MixedIn the post she said she was happy to have shown Musk "how it feels to be deeply understood, nurtured, and peacefully loved with stability and gentleness", and said she had loved him "more than life itself". CentreShe said she hoped she and Musk could be "great friends and coparents", that their four children were "beautiful little loves of my life", and that she would "always be cheering for his happiness".

MixedNewsweek said it had contacted X, SpaceX and Neuralink for comment; Raw Story, citing People, said Musk's representatives did not immediately respond to requests for comment, and none of the four articles reports a response from Musk. CentreZilis is a venture capitalist and AI specialist who has worked with Musk's companies, including Neuralink, and court documents in 2022 revealed that she and Musk had twins. LeftAccording to Raw Story, citing People, the twins Strider and Azure were born in 2021, a daughter, Arcadia, in 2024, and a son, Seldon, was announced in early 2025; Zilis also posted "New day, new life" on Sept. 27.

LeftThe Verge recalled that at the trial earlier this year in which Musk sued Sam Altman over donations to OpenAI, Zilis denied under oath being Musk's chief of staff and said she worked across his AI portfolio, while Musk testified that she was his chief of staff. LeftThe Verge also noted that Musk has 14 known children and a history of public disputes with other mothers of his children, including Ashley St. Clair and Grimes. LeftRaw Story, citing Courthouse News, said Zilis told the court in May that her relationship with Musk was platonic when he offered to be a sperm donor so she could become a mother, and had since become romantic.

LeftRaw Story quoted reactions on X from political writer Matthew Yglesias, disinformation researcher Dave Troy and commentator Molly Jong-Fast, who linked the split to Musk's treatment of other women, including Ashley St. Clair. CentreThe Times of India described Zilis as a Neuralink executive and reproduced her post in full, including her description of herself and the children as Musk's "safe space" and her words "I'm hurting".

Every sentence links to the reporting it rests on. The pill in front of each says where its sources sit: Left, Centre or Right when one side supplies at least half of them, Mixed when they are evenly split.

Framing
Opinionated and sardonic (The Verge) or commentary-led (Raw Story), treating the breakup as internet drama and setting it against Musk's record with the mothers of his children, the OpenAI trial and Zilis's leaked texts.
Emphasis
Court testimony, Musk's history with other mothers of his children, the Kalshi sponsorship of the Big Tech Alert post, the screenshot of texts about the Xi dinner, and critical reactions from commentators on X.
Leaves out or plays down
Neither mentions the requests to X, SpaceX or Neuralink for comment; The Verge gives little weight to her hope for friendship and coparenting.
Charged language
“totally fucking cursed”“baby mamas”“principal breeder”“birthing partner”
For example
“It was also sponsored by Kalshi, because everything in this relationship is totally fucking cursed, dude.” — The Verge
“'Hurting': Elon Musk breaks up with birthing partner as she leaks texts on White House” — Raw Story

Centre2 outlets

Framing
Straight reports centred on Zilis's statement, quoting it at length and noting the unfollow report and her hope to remain friends and coparents; The Times of India frames it as a question ('Did Elon Musk and Shivon Zilis break up?').
Emphasis
Zilis's own words, her hope for friendship and co-parenting, and (Newsweek) the request for comment from X, SpaceX and Neuralink.
Leaves out or plays down
Do not mention the court testimony about her role, the shared text screenshot, or Musk's other relationships.
Charged language
“militant existence”
For example
“The post appears to confirm that Zilis and Musk, whose relationship had largely remained private despite their growing family, are no longer together.” — Newsweek
“made a long social media post hinting that Elon Musk has broken up with him all of a sudden” — The Times of India
