The story, neutrally told

Left · 1Skydance has reshuffled the team that handles its TV and streaming distribution, the unit responsible for content deals with pay-TV operators, streaming and device platforms and other partners. Mixed · 2Ray Hopkins, president of distribution, announced the changes in an internal memo dated Nov. 3, a Tuesday; Reuters reported them first. Deadline describes Hopkins as a longtime CBS veteran. Mixed · 2Sarah Bergman, formerly of HBO and WBD, and Mickey Carter, formerly of Paramount and CBS, will share the title of EVP of distribution and split responsibility for negotiating distribution agreements and managing partnerships.

Mixed · 2Their portfolio covers CBS owned-and-operated stations, 55 basic cable networks, Paramount+, HBO Max, Discovery+, Pluto TV and more than 100 FAST channels; Deadline adds two premium networks. Mixed · 2Eight executives are leaving: from WBD, Rivka Golomb, Kelly Kane, Jeff Cross and Rich Palermo; and from Paramount, CBS and Showtime, David Comisar, Kurt Davis, Deena Demasi and Ken Kay. Centre · 1Deadline reports that Cross, an EVP for legal, distribution and commercial partnerships, will remain a senior advisor to the distribution group after leaving his role, because Rick Baker now takes the lead legal role as EVP and Deputy General Counsel for distribution.

Centre · 1Other appointments, per Deadline, are Brad Shipley (EVP, Business Development & Strategy, also distribution lead for Skydance Global Sports Group), Patrick Cavanaugh (EVP & CFO, Distribution Finance), Rick Baker, Joe Bahr (SVP, Partner Operations), Andrew Borak (SVP, Marketing), Bob Aguanno (SVP, CBS Affiliate Relations) and John Bagwell (SVP, Associate General Counsel). Left · 1Variety reports that Hopkins reports to JB Perrette, co-chair and chief business officer of Skydance TV and Skydance Direct-to-Consumer, and that Scott Miller, previously WBD's president of networks and streaming distribution, exited with Hopkins' appointment. Left · 1The merger of Paramount and Warner Bros. Discovery into Skydance closed Oct. 6, and the company has targeted $6 billion in annualized cost savings; Variety says mass layoffs are expected before year-end and some employees were offered voluntary buyouts in an Oct. 26 memo from David Ellison and co-CEO Ynon Kreiz.

Centre · 1Deadline stresses the financial stakes: Skydance carries almost $80 billion in debt after the $110 billion deal, and a consent decree from state attorneys general, which resolved an antitrust lawsuit, requires it to negotiate carriage deals for the Paramount and WBD asset families as though they were still separate companies.
