The story, neutrally told

Mixed · 2Sony Pictures Classics (SPC) has acquired rights to Niki Byrne's "The Julia Set," starring Chase Infiniti, following the film's world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). Mixed · 2SPC will distribute the film in the US, Benelux, Switzerland, Italy, Scandinavia, Spain, the UK, Eastern Europe (excluding Poland), Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Israel and Asia (excluding Singapore). Left · 3Variety reports the studio plans a theatrical release next year; The Hollywood Reporter says terms of the deal were not disclosed, and all three outlets say it was negotiated between SPC and the agency Gersh.

Mixed · 2Byrne wrote and directed the film, her debut. It follows Julia Fischer (Infiniti), a math prodigy recruited into an elite prep course that ends in a punishing exam, who falls into a relationship with her teaching assistant Pascal (Christopher Briney). Mixed · 2Jason Isaacs and Gillian Anderson play Pascal's parents, and the cast also includes Nina Hoss, Carmen Ejogo, Chloe Bailey, Nico Hiraga, Liz Lin and Alex Dillard. Mixed · 2Byrne said in a statement that SPC's heads Michael Barker and Tom Bernard and their team "have made sure audiences catch the movies worth catching," and that she was proud to add the film to their library.

Mixed · 2SPC called the film an "emotionally engaging and impressive directorial début" and said the TIFF response "confirms what promises to be a great theatrical success" and that Infiniti's performance in "One Battle After Another" "was no accident." Left · 3Reception is described differently: Variety says Infiniti earned rave reviews and the film was a festival breakout, The Hollywood Reporter quotes its reviewer David Rooney praising her performance, and Deadline notes the film stands at 70% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes. Mixed · 2The Hollywood Reporter says Infiniti will next star in the horror feature "Portrait of God", and Deadline notes her Emmy nomination for Hulu's "The Testaments" and her nominations for "One Battle After Another".

Every sentence links to the reporting it rests on. The pill in front of each says where its sources sit: Left, Centre or Right when one side supplies at least half of them, Mixed when they are evenly split. The number is how many outlets it cites.
