The story, neutrally told

Mixed · 2The second season of Star Trek: Starfleet Academy will premiere on Paramount+ in March 2027, it was announced at the Star Trek panel at New York Comic Con on Saturday 10 October. Left · 1Variety noted that an exact premiere date has yet to be set. Mixed · 2Bill Nighy and Rosemarie DeWitt will guest star: Nighy plays Nahla's estranged father, Nyk Ake, and DeWitt plays Laytha Sadal, the First Lady of Betazed and mother of Tarima.

Centre · 1Screen Rant adds that Laytha is also mother to Ocam, that Nyk Ake is a Lanthanite, and that Holly Hunter also plays Nahla's twin sister in season 2. Centre · 3The panel included Holly Hunter, Sandro Rosta, Bella Shepard, Karim Diané, Robert Picardo and co-showrunners Alex Kurtzman and Noga Landau, who showed a new clip; first-look photos were also released, Screen Rant counting 11 images. Mixed · 2The official logline says the cadets spend their second year aboard the USS Athena, facing rivalries, shaky diplomatic negotiations, a schoolwide tournament and the arrival of a mysterious new cadet.

Mixed · 2Season 2 is the show's final season; Variety said it first reported this in March, and Screen Rant says Paramount+ cancelled the series less than two weeks after the season 1 finale, leaving it at the halfway point of a planned four-year run. Centre · 1Screen Rant says no new Star Trek series is in production and that Skydance plans a new Star Trek film first, so the franchise's TV future is unclear.

Every sentence links to the reporting it rests on. The pill in front of each says where its sources sit: Left, Centre or Right when one side supplies at least half of them, Mixed when they are evenly split. The number is how many outlets it cites.
