The story, neutrally told

Centre · 1The BBC has confirmed that the Strictly Come Dancing Christmas special will return in December with six couples competing for the title, according to Radio Times. Mixed · 2For the first time in seven years, all the celebrities taking part will be returning stars of past series. Centre · 1Each couple will perform a new festive-themed routine and join opening and closing group numbers; Radio Times says the contestants and their professional partners will be confirmed in due course.

Mixed · 2Both outlets link the idea to the alumni dance at last year's Blackpool special, in which Ashley Roberts, Danny Mac, Jay McGuiness and Layton Williams revisited famous routines. Radio Times says it understands that response inspired the team; the Express cites an insider saying the same. Right · 1The Daily Express, relaying an insider quoted by The Sun, reports that producers are casting six former stars and that Denise Van Outen, Georgia May Foote and Maisie Smith are among names on a wish list; this is unconfirmed and described as what 'could' happen. Right · 1The same source says the show will be filmed in December and shown on Christmas Day, and that the winner will receive the Christmas star trophy.

Mixed · 2Radio Times notes returning celebrities also featured in Christmas specials from 2004 to 2009 and 2014 to 2019; the Express recalls that Debbie McGee and Kevin Clifton won the 2019 edition with a Quickstep to Jingle Bells. Centre · 1The news follows the current series' first triple dance-off, in which Lawrence Robb and Jowita Przystał were sent home after landing in the bottom three with Bethany Antonia and Nancy Xu, and Jaime Winstone and Carlos Gu. Right · 1The Express frames the Christmas change as coming after viewer backlash to that triple dance-off, quoting social media posts questioning its point; Radio Times does not mention any backlash.

Centre · 1Strictly continues on Saturday 7 November at 6:30pm on BBC One and iPlayer.

Every sentence links to the reporting it rests on. The pill in front of each says where its sources sit: Left, Centre or Right when one side supplies at least half of them, Mixed when they are evenly split. The number is how many outlets it cites.
