The story, neutrally told

Centre · 2Former England footballer Shaun Wright-Phillips and his professional partner Alexis Warr became the fourth couple to leave Strictly Come Dancing 2026 in the results show on Sunday 25 October, after losing the dance-off to actor Jaime Winstone and Carlos Gu. Mixed · 2Winstone and Gu had landed in the bottom two after the public vote despite scoring 25 on Saturday; they finished above Cach Mercer and Maddie Ingoldsby (24) and Lawrence Robb and Jowita Przystal (19), while Wright-Phillips and Warr had scored 17 for their jive. Mixed · 2In the dance-off Wright-Phillips and Warr repeated their jive to "Faith" and Winstone and Gu their foxtrot to "Man I Need". Craig Revel Horwood and Motsi Mabuse voted to save Winstone and Gu, head judge Shirley Ballas voted for Wright-Phillips and Warr, and Anton Du Beke, who had the casting vote, saved Winstone and Gu.

Mixed · 2The show also announced Strictly's first triple dance-off, to take place in next week's Halloween episode: the three couples with the lowest combined judges' scores and public votes will dance again and the judges will eliminate one pair. It is a one-week change, with two-couple dance-offs returning afterwards. Mixed · 2On Saturday, Winter Olympic champion Tabby Stoecker and Mark Karmalita topped the leaderboard with 37, the highest of the series so far, and Delta Goodrem returned from a rib injury to score the series' first 10 in a 34-point rumba with Kai Widdrington. Robb's jive, which scored 19, was criticised by Revel Horwood as "flat-footed and out of time". Centre · 1Spice Girls star Melanie C joined the professionals for a fitness-inspired group dance. The remaining 11 couples return for the Halloween special at 6.30pm on BBC One on Saturday 31 October.

Mixed · 2Reaction on social media was mixed. The Daily Express quoted viewers who disliked the triple dance-off, with one calling the twist "ridiculous", and, before the show aired, fans accusing Ballas of bias after a leaked result. The Evening Standard reported viewers calling Du Beke's remark that Wright-Phillips's "quest for professional dancing will have to wait a bit longer" "unnecessary and unkind"; the Standard said it had contacted Du Beke's representatives and the BBC for comment. Right · 1The Daily Mail placed the exit within wider questions over falling ratings after the presenting team changed: Saturday's show averaged 5.3 million viewers, compared with 5.18 million the week before and 5.3 million for the launch. It cited BBC insiders saying bosses were "planning to change" the host line-up, which a BBC spokesman called "pure and utter speculation". Right · 1The Mail also reported that the show corrected a scoring graphic live on air on Saturday: Ballas gave Lacey Turner and Vito Coppola a six, not the seven displayed, making their total 28.
