The story, neutrally told

Mixed · 2Sudanese Sovereign Council chairman Abdel Fattah al-Burhan vowed on Tuesday 6 October to keep fighting the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) until "every inch" of the country is retaken. Mixed · 2He spoke at a public gathering in Village 5 in the Merowe locality of Northern State, according to the Sudan News Agency. Mixed · 2He said the army would press ahead with the "military option" until the RSF is removed, and he reiterated the government and military's rejection of negotiations with the group.

Centre · 1Anadolu Agency adds that the government has repeatedly rejected a political settlement that it says would put "a sovereign state and a rebel militia" on equal footing, and says any truce or dialogue must be conditioned on RSF withdrawal from cities and public institutions, handover of weapons, regrouping in designated camps and accountability for alleged violations. Mixed · 2The army and the RSF have fought since April 2023 after a dispute over integrating the paramilitary force into the army; the war has killed tens of thousands and displaced about 13 million people, and Anadolu says it has caused famine conditions in parts of the country. Left · 1Al Jazeera reported that 10 civilians were killed and others wounded in an RSF attack on Abu Ajal village, near En Nahud in West Kordofan, according to the Dar Hamar Emergency Committee, a local charity group, which accused the RSF of multiple violations against civilians.

Left · 1It said the RSF has been massing in West Kordofan as the army advances towards En Nahud and Al Khuway after gains in North Kordofan, and that the International Organization for Migration reported more than 5,500 people displaced from villages in Blue Nile state over three days. Left · 1Separately, Massad Boulos, US President Donald Trump's senior adviser for Arab and African affairs, said on X on Monday that peace could come through an "inclusive Sudanese-owned and Sudanese-led national dialogue" and a transition to civilian-led government; the US State Department said last month that neither the army, the RSF nor their leaders "represent legitimate, constitutional governance for Sudan".

Every sentence links to the reporting it rests on. The pill in front of each says where its sources sit: Left, Centre or Right when one side supplies at least half of them, Mixed when they are evenly split. The number is how many outlets it cites.
