The story, neutrally told

Mixed · 2Preliminary laboratory results from a Kenyan patient suspected of having Ebola came back negative, the governor of Wajir County, where the patient is being treated, said on Thursday. Right · 1In a statement the governor said: "I am pleased to report that the preliminary laboratory results indicate that the sample is NEGATIVE for Ebola." Mixed · 2The patient is a 20-year-old man who travelled from the Democratic Republic of the Congo through Uganda to Kenya, the same route as the patient who died; Reuters reported that his samples were sent to a laboratory in Nairobi.

Mixed · 2Kenya reported its first-ever Ebola case on Tuesday, when a citizen who had become sick in the DRC died in Nairobi. Mixed · 2Kenya is the fourth country to record a case linked to the epidemic in the DRC, the second-largest Ebola outbreak on record; Al Jazeera put the toll at at least 4,205 deaths from more than 8,700 cases, while Reuters said more than 8,000 cases. Left · 1Al Jazeera reported that the DRC declared the outbreak in May, that it spread to Uganda (about 20 cases, declared Ebola-free in July), and that the strain is Bundibugyo virus, for which no vaccine exists.

Mixed · 2Both outlets say the first case exposed lapses in Kenya's border screening, as the patient passed multiple airport temperature checks; Al Jazeera adds that the WHO is working with Kenyan authorities to trace contacts and strengthen traveller checks. Right · 1The result is preliminary, and the coverage does not report any further confirmatory testing.

Every sentence links to the reporting it rests on. The pill in front of each says where its sources sit: Left, Centre or Right when one side supplies at least half of them, Mixed when they are evenly split. The number is how many outlets it cites.
