The story, neutrally told

Right · 2A 15-year-old schoolboy, referred to only as Fraser and described as a Reform UK supporter, was arrested at his family home by four West Midlands Police officers in the early hours of 3 August. Right · 2The arrest followed Facebook posts about Simon Bennett, the Conservative leader on Wolverhampton City Council, who has admitted referring the boy to the police. Right · 2In one post Fraser criticised the councillor for attending a meeting in a T-shirt and shorts; after the councillor later wore a suit, he said he was glad the councillor was not dressed like a "rent boy".

Right · 2According to the two accounts, Fraser was searched in front of neighbours, taken to a police station, put in a cell, and had his fingerprints, DNA and mugshot taken, while two officers searched his bedroom and his phone was examined. Right · 1Hot Air reports that West Midlands Police told his lawyer by email on 8 September: "It is alleged that your client's comments could be considered a hate crime offence". Right · 1Breitbart, citing the Telegraph, says the force has not confirmed the reason for the arrest and has not decided whether to charge him more than two months on.

Right · 1In a statement, West Midlands Police said it would not confirm or deny the identity of anyone arrested, in line with College of Policing guidelines, and that it will "always look to investigate" any crime report it receives. Right · 1Bennett said the police "have not arrested for no reason", that several posts targeted him, and that it was unpleasant to be targeted by a child he had no way of dealing with. Right · 2Fraser believes the arrest was linked to his support for Reform UK and Nigel Farage, and pointed to Green Party leader Zack Polanski, who he said was not questioned after sharing an image suggesting Farage's assassination.

Right · 2Celia Hibbert, Reform's leader in Wolverhampton, contacted the Free Speech Union, which found him a lawyer and has joined his legal team; his lawyers are preparing a claim against the force for wrongful arrest and false imprisonment, which they say must wait until the force decides whether to charge him. Right · 2The Free Speech Union called the arrest a "shocking overreach", said the investigation "needs to end immediately", and said calling someone a "rent boy" may be offensive but is not a hate crime. Right · 2Both outlets place the case in a wider debate on speech policing: Breitbart cites a Big Brother Watch report that at least 62,000 Britons were arrested over five years for speech offences, while Hot Air compares it with German and French moves against online insults.

Every sentence links to the reporting it rests on. The pill in front of each says where its sources sit: Left, Centre or Right when one side supplies at least half of them, Mixed when they are evenly split. The number is how many outlets it cites.

Framing
Both outlets present the arrest as heavy-handed policing of a child's political speech and as an attack on free speech, Breitbart as a news report and Hot Air as an opinion column.
Emphasis
The treatment of the boy (four officers, cell, DNA, phone search), the Free Speech Union's statements, the comparison with Zack Polanski, and wider censorship in Britain and Europe.
Leaves out or plays down
Neither outlet gives the councillor's side beyond a brief quote (Breitbart) or details of the other posts he says targeted him; the police explanation is minimal. Hot Air does not report Bennett's comments at all.
Charged language
“Orwellian”“draconian speech restrictions”“heavily censorious society”“blatant abuse of power”“hurty words”“intimidation on a grand scale”
For example
“modern Britain has devolved into a heavily censorious society” — Breitbart
“It is deeply Orwellian for an elected official to use the police to silence a child who mocked him.” — Hot Air
