The story, neutrally told

Centre · 1The fifth edition of the Michelin Guide Dubai was unveiled on 6 October 2026 at Atlantis The Royal and features 122 restaurants across 38 cuisine types. Centre · 1Several restaurants that are temporarily closed kept their distinctions, which raised questions about how Michelin treats establishments that have suspended operations. Centre · 1In a statement to Gulf News, Michelin said it was aware that a number of restaurants are closed because of "the current circumstances" and is monitoring when they might reopen. It said their distinctions were maintained based on its most recent assessments and regular inspection visits, and that inspectors will revisit and re-evaluate them once they reopen.

Centre · 1Gulf News named Al Muntaha, Dinner by Heston Blumenthal, Ossiano and Smoked Room as reportedly closed restaurants that kept one star each. It also said Brasserie Frantzén and La Mar by Gastón Acurio, both at Atlantis The Royal, have reportedly paused operations; the article lists them among restaurants in Michelin's wider selection. Centre · 1The National's Culture Bites podcast said more than 10 restaurants on the list were recognised while their operations were paused, and that some people have questioned this. Centre · 1The podcast hosts tie the closures to disruption from the regional conflict since the start of 2026. They describe Michelin's decision as giving restaurateurs some grace in the face of these difficulties.

Centre · 1Gulf News links the closures to refurbishment or operational changes at some luxury hospitality venues, whereas Michelin itself referred only to "current circumstances". Centre · 1Orfali Bros, run by three Syrian brothers, was promoted from one to two stars. Birch and KIGO debuted with one star each, and the two three-star restaurants, FZN by Björn Frantzén and Trèsind Studio, kept their ratings. Centre · 1The 2026 selection has two three-star, four two-star and 14 one-star restaurants, plus 22 Bib Gourmand and 80 Michelin-Selected restaurants, with 19 new additions.

Emphasis

Leaves out or plays down
Neither names all of the more than 10 closed restaurants. Gulf News does not mention the regional conflict, and the podcast summary does not quote Michelin's statement.
