The story, neutrally told

Centre · 1Tennessee Titans head coach Robert Saleh said he has no plans to bench starting quarterback Cam Ward after the team lost 26-3 to the Houston Texans in Week 5, leaving the Titans 0-5. Centre · 1Newsweek said some fans had called for Ward to be benched, and, citing ESPN's Turron Davenport, reported that Saleh said Ward is the Titans' quarterback this year. Centre · 1Ward was the first overall pick in the 2025 NFL draft. Newsweek gave his season line as three touchdowns, three interceptions, 896 passing yards and a 63.2% completion rate in five games, after 15 touchdowns, seven interceptions and 3,169 yards as a rookie.

Right · 1At his Wednesday press conference, Saleh was asked how Ward could keep pressure and sacks from affecting him. He said he had a "really cool conversation" with Ward that week, and that Ward is "in a good headspace" and has "a lot of confidence in the o-line". Right · 1Fox News's OutKick reported that the Titans have the NFL's lowest-scoring offense, that the Texans, who had been winless, sacked Ward four times, and that the team has not beaten an AFC South opponent since November 2024. Right · 1OutKick said Ward is 3-19 as a starter, including 0-7 against AFC South teams, and that the Titans visit the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday. It also said the Titans have gone 6-33 since firing Mike Vrabel in January 2024, and that Saleh's career head-coaching record is 20-41 including his time with the New York Jets.

Right · 1OutKick called Saleh's comments "disingenuous" and said he should instead say Ward is angry yet motivated. It also acknowledged that Saleh must try to build confidence in a quarterback the front office sees as the face of the franchise.
